I think that Macon City Council is going down the tubes. Henry Ficklin stabbed us in the back on the airport. I am about sick of this town and the people who run it. Our learning institutions show the sloth that has invaded this town and are a symptom of said same.
I went to Central Georgia Tech to register (late) and saw more and more that it is a dumping ground for high schoolers without a clue. Some of the people I saw there looked like normal working Joes and Janes. Many looked like rap singers, hillbillies, and other assorted doofuses.
There is a predominance of people going on a grant of some sort (I go on a HOPE grant partly because I want to soak the poor- fight back against the redistribution of wealth).
I have heard that professors are forced to dumb down their standards. I am seeing signs for tutoring services to prop up what our public schools have excreted. The publicity people have advertised CGTC as an elixir to cure problems with unemployment, underemployment, and to help the few big industries we have.
By the way I missed registration (thought it was in October)and for some reason the staff at CGTC called me to make sure I made it to Drop/Add. They sure need the federal funds my carcass nets them. I wonder how much a head the feds and the state give (sounds like a subsidy for crops, I know).
Not that I haven't been the most studious student as I've missed some quarters. I played hookey partly due to a career slump and partly due to "I can read this on my own". But let's not reward underachievers and turn our schools into welfare programs.
KAT
Dear Kat,
I got a call from S.G. today about going to the Council meeting and wearing a recall shirt. We were the only ones there, and I felt uncomfortable for sure. I am so very depressed about our local government. I cannot stand the arrogance of the leaders. I spoke to Mr. Dennard, but I made a mistake and called him Mr. Dillard. I quickly said oh I know that is not right. I got about 2 hours at most sleep last night, and my mind went blank. Well, he smarts off and says "we all look alike." Now, that really ticks me off, and I am tired of the discrimination that is displayed by all of the African Americans in this town.
It is equal rights and equal rights that, well what about my rights and your rights and everyone else's rights? If a Citizen is angry over taxes being wasted, then civil disobedience is a right regardless of color!
Now to CGTC, I taught there for a couple of years at night. I taught accounting, and my best students were as a rule 35 or older. The younger students were mostly not business oriented students. I had one student when we were going over what was going to be on a test, ask me if she could leave early to go to Fred's to buy a mop. Ha! I said, well if you do poorly on this exam then don't blame me. Then of course, she did not do well. I had one student that was always looking at her cell phone as if she were checking on phone messages. I was suspcicous because her grades were much better than what she showed as her knowledge in class. I made her put the phone in her purse on the third exam, and her grade dropped considerably. She was keying in journal entries and all in her email account, I suppose.
This is so very sad to be in a town where you just feel as if there is no where to go but downhill.
