LETTER SENT TO VIEWPOINTS ABOUT EDUCATION

Dear Editors,

"The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers." This was not written in the 21st Century nor was it writen in any Century after Christ, as this is a quote of Socrates sometime before his death, which was 399 BC.So you that write letters and editorials and thesis about the education of children, should have only heeded the words of this very wise Greek philosopher. No one would listen to him, nor will people listen today. Children need to be reared in the home to learn manners and respect for elders because a teacher is in the classroom to provide the key to learning that expands the mind of a child to learn even more. If children are not in a loving home environment, they will never succeed in the 21st Century nor any century. The government is not our keeper, and the teacher is not the baby sitter. If a person wants their children to move out of poverty and to learn, then it is that parent's responsibility to plant the seed that will flourish. The publicly funded form of education did not start in the United States until the 1800s, and look what we have lost with this failed socialistic intrusion into education. We have children that cannot think for themselves, and that when they do get to college and cannot write a coherent paragraph let alone a thesis. Yes a mind is a terrible thing to waste, but the nourishment of the mind must come from home.
