BIBB COUNTY'S EMPTY COOKIE JAR

OH, TODAY IT IS PLEASE VOTE ON THE ELOST BECAUSE WE NEED TO EDUCATE OUR CHILDREN TO DRAW INDUSTRY TO OUR AREA. I AM SO SADDENED TO SEE THE REPUBLICAN COMMISSIONERS AND THE FORMER BIBB COUNTY REPUBLICAN PARTY CHAIR ENDORSE MORE TAXES!!!!! TOMORROW, IT WILL BE MORE OF THE SAME BECAUSE THE MORE THAT YOU BUILD WITH SALES TAXES, THE HIGHER THE OPERATING COSTS GO TO UPKEEP THE NEW FACILITIES.

Now, I will take the reader back to approximately 1978 when we moved to Macon located in Bibb County, Georgia. North Macon stopped basically at Wimbish Road and South Macon was a few homes in the Hartley Bridge Road area. Lake Tobosofkee was just starting to be developed, and we even looked at a lot on the lake through a marketing offer. The money was flowing in like crazy, and realtors, engineers, attorneys, and bankers were making money like they had never done before. Government contracts were awarded like candy or like cookies from a bottomless cookie jar. Greed was the name of the game, and my husband could not even wear his uniform when going to buy a new car or anything with a negotiable price because the price was inflated if you worked for B&W, a plumber's price increased, a carpenter's price increased and an attorney's price increased and yes no doubt a CPA's price increased if it was known that you worked for B&W.

Now, the big money has been made. And everyone is sitting in their fine homes and they need money to keep their big life styles going, and so what do the social Republicans endorse in this county. In other words, instead of the millions in payroll that was flowing around Macon from B&W going to build the infrastructure and schools, it went into the pockets of all of the so called movers and shakers pockets. Why let us pass another sales tax increase, and who cares if 37% of the households have less than $25,000 annual income. I am ashamed to be a member of this party, and I do not endorse the sales tax increase at all. It is time for the very wealthy people of this community that have gouged and stolen from the tax coffers to pay their fair share of taxes. But, oh they cannot because many of them have moved out of Bibb County. There is nothing conservative at all about this County's Republican Party! I am not out publicly against the tax because it does no good talking to people that are mostly converts from the Democrat Party.

Raising taxes on the poor and small businesses will do nothing but keep the government and their political cronies with enough money to keep their spending habits in check. It will drive more businesses out of business, and the community will suffer even more. But, sadly government never listens. Not only is the cookie jar not bottomless, it is nearly empty now. As a community, we are financially depressed and most importantly we are morally depressed. Shame on the government that refuses to be fiscally conservative and make meaningful cuts in the pork, and yes there is plenty of pork in Bibb County government spending!

I still don't have any health care offers other than removal of ingrown toenails with fishing pliers and a pocket knife.

I will say this; I remember the time period during which you arrived in Macon.

We had industry left and right; Allied Chemical, Taylor Iron Works, and a few shirt factories were operating. Today they are ghosts. Yes there have been robots and imports. But we have had bunglers take over from the fair-to-middling people who managed to get YKK and Brown/Williamson in here.

Yes, our schools weren't worth a nickel. Mike Van Wyck was the epitome of incompentence and so was comptroller Grady Gafford. Thus if I vote for the ELOST it will be due to the overwhelming disrepair of many facilities. But you can't polish a turd (Bibb County Public Schools) so I have to keep that in mind.

I will likely relocate out of Middle Georgia but I won't do it without a few tears. There is enough friendliness and goodness to keep everyone from going to pieces.

One thing is for sure; I will fire off a very nasty, caustic letter to the Telegraph giving eternal hell to Jack Ellis and the fools who allowed him and the bunglers to destroy this city.

Oh and one more thing; your community is actually South BIBB not South Macon. It may be a snobbish comment but citizens in unincorporated South Bibb have been a bit more educated. The community has been mostly crime free (other than burglars and druggies) compared to the other side of Seven Bridges.
