SAN ANDREAS FAULT LINE-WHO WILL BE AT FAULT WHEN THE QUAKES HAPPEN?

OK, HERE WE HAVE A DISASTER THAT HAS BEEN WARNED ABOUT FOR YEARS. CALIFORNIA IS AT LEAST THE THIRD LARGEST ECONOMY, AND HAS HAD DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP FOR YEARS. NOW, WHO WILL BE AT FAULT WHEN THE INEVITABLE HAPPENS IN CALIFORNIA WHEN MUCH OF CALIFORNIA CRUMBLES INTO THE PACIFIC? WHAT FOLLOWS IS A LINK TO A NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ARTICLE.

A recent study suggests that the San Andreas Fault (shown bisecting the Carrizo Plain in San Luis Obispo County above) may be more complex than previously thought. Scientists monitored "microearthquakes" to get a better picture of four secondary faults that may connect to the deeper and older part of the fault system.Photograph copyright Tom Bean/CORBIS
