SHAME ON MS. PATTERSON OF BIBB COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD

"Mom, may I have this quarter for my piggy bank?" "No, honey, our cost of living is higher because of gas for the car, higher utility bills, the food we buy and those sales taxes have gone up, too!"
I just finished watching a round table discussion on Channel 14 concerning the upcoming ELOST, and listened to the economic nonsense of our elected officials. Who cares if people from outside the County pay any of the sales tax because when we leave the County, we pay someone else's tax! What part of that do people not understand? It is a moot point. Raising taxes stifles economic growth. It is a sham to watch elected officials sitting at a table saying they wholeheartedly support sales tax increases. No sh** sherlock, who would have ever thought that? I listened to Ms. Patterson talk at Union Baptist Church on June 2oth, the eve before the SPLOST election, and she talked about the reading of "The Purpose Driven Life," and I think to myself what is purpose driven about saying at this current round table discussion, as Ms. Patterson said, "I find pennies lying on the street." Shame on you Ms. Patterson with your over a $100,000 per year position saying such a stupid and thoughtless thing.

Ms. Patterson, above all people in this community, knows that there are children in this community that do not have enough pennies to pay for school lunches. And she wants these poverty stricken people to pay even more pennies to taxes, and to pay inflated prices at the stores, and pay inflated prices at the gas pump, and pay up to 30% more for heating their homes in the winter. I am totally disgusted, and so should anyone reading this post be disgusted.

These inept business leaders do not get it, that raising taxes is what has driven businesses out of this community. New buildings and new desks do not make one learn any better. It is the parents and the children that must be self-reliant in getting an education. Why should we build more schools for the students to destroy? We could repair what we already have, and tighten the belt. And there sat, Chairman Bishop, and it makes me want to puke as I think about his numerous commercials that he is a fiscally conservative Republican. The only reason business leaders are behind a tax increase is because they are sitting with saliva running down their chins waiting to get contracts or sell land for the building of new schools. These greedy people do not give a rat's a** about the public education system because most of them are like me, and they educate their children in private schools! Give me a break!

I predict about a 7% total voter turnout, and what a sham of an election. If these leaders lived in the 1800s, they would be hung in the public square for holding elections basically in the dark! If the elected officials really wanted to serve the people then ALL people would be notified by mail about an election. And then and only then would the passage for more taxes be the result of an honest and a fair election.

Note: I do not have anything personally against anyone in an elected office. This is written from the perspective of basic common sense, and I firmly believe that Ms. Patterson, et al truly believe they are doing what is right. It is called survival of the fittest, and when you have business leaders worried about businesses such as B&W leaving and Keebler leaving then elected officials get pressured into sponsoring sales tax votes. There was an old saying that I heard growing up, which was "You can't get blood out of a turnip." Money in most households is finite, and when you take money away for taxes or higher service costs then something has to be cut in the budget of families. One group of people will do good with this redistribution of wealth, which is the wealthy and upper middle income people but we will create a bigger divide between the haves and haves not. Instead of 37% of the households living below a $25,000 income per year that percentage will no doubt go higher. Sure the carpet layers, the tile layers, the furniture retailers, the brick layers and brick suppliers, the engineers, the lawyers that draw up the contracts, car dealerships, the painters and others will make inflated money, but much of it will be taken right out of Bibb County to where many of these people reside. The small businesses in this community will not do as well, and the poor people will be struggling more than ever.

Politicians don't understand that Americans have been taxed to the point of poverty. Most politicians are more financially well off than the general populace and don't understand that rather than create more taxes a better environment to create more revenues with the taxes at hand is what we need.
